Columbus Families Reimbursed For Water Tower Replacement

Feb 16, 2017 -- 7:19am

2/15/17 - Two families in Columbus have received settlements after being displaced for nearly two months from their homes on Chapel Street. Dale Pfeffer and David Nerswick each received $54 hundred dollars from the city after being forced to evacuate their homes on July 21 when lightning struck the Chapel Street Water Tower. The strike caused bricks, mortar and other materials from the exterior of the tower to fall onto the neighboring Pfeffer and Nerswick properties. The Chapel Street Tower has since been repaired and both families returned home after 54 days. Both residents agreed to sign releases preventing them from filing further claims against the city. About half of the settlement money will be paid through insurance. The remainder was paid for from the city’s contingency fund.
