Fallen Honored In Dodge County Law Enforcement Ceremony

May 18, 2017 -- 8:02am

5/18/17 - Several local police officers gathered at the county Administration building in Juneau yesterday for the annual Dodge County Executive Law Enforcement Memorial Service. The ceremony pays tribute to the officers who have lost their lives in or are from Dodge County. The Sheriff’s Office Champlain Tim Bauer, who provided a prayer for the officers in attendance, says there are dangerous criminals and sociopaths in cribs right now and that they are going to grow up to be dangerous people but at the same time we have children being born now that will grow up to be heroes. He says evil will always be among us but the courageous will be there to protect us. Outside the administration building, Dodge County has its own monument to honor those who have perished in the line of duty. Bauer says it serves as a reminder that it is not how the officers died that made them heroes it is how they live. Deputy Administrator from the Wisconsin Department of Justice Jason Smith was the keynote speaker this year. Smith says while we might not be able to provide the family, friends, and colleagues of these falling heroes the peace that they seek, we can make them a promise. That the work that these falling heroes loved the service that was the center of their lives will continue. He says their sacrifice and lost will be honored by a county, state, and nation that has been and will continue to be strengthened by their example. Smith is 25-year law enforcement veteran who helped coordinate responses to the mass shootings at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek and Azana Spa in Brookfield. He says their stories and legacies will never be forgotten. Smith adds that while our time together was brief, we will forever carry forward the spirits of those they represent in our work, in our hearts, and in our ongoing commitment to justice. Twelve officers, dating back to 1880’s, were honored at the ceremony.
