7/17/17 - Sometimes good deeds are rewarded. Several years ago, eight-year-old Chris Rios aided in saving the life of a Beaver Dam woman who had passed out from a drug overdose. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt said the local youth called 911 and got his parents along with other adults involved. He was later recognized for his deeds with a letter of commendation from the sheriff, a Packers jersey, and a bike. On a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Schmidt said he ran into Rios a few weeks ago. Rios told Schmidt that he still had the certificate but when asked about the bike his head hung low and informed the Sheriff it was stolen when took it to school the day after he got it. Schmidt says he quickly went over to Wal-Mart to see what he could do. He said he found the store manager who helped him pick-out and then donated a 26-inch mountain bike. Before leaving, Schmidt said he also made sure he grabbed a bike lock. Rios had a smile from ear-to-ear when he was given the new bike. Schmidt said the whole experience gave him goosebumps and he might have even shed a tear or two.
