OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OR PAYMENT WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING.
a. These rules govern the WBEV/WXRO Karaoke contest (“Contest”) for the year 2017, culminating with a final event to be held during the annual Race Into Summer Festival at Swan Park on Sunday, May 28, 2017.
b. All participants in the Contest (“Participants”) must be at least 21 years old in order to be eligible to participate.
c. Potential entrants are not eligible as Participants if: they are under contract with any entity within the entertainment industry, or if they have, or had a relationship with the radio station that would conflict with their participation in the contest, to be determined by Good Karma Broadcasting.
(2) GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CONTEST
a. WBEV/WXRO Cash-N-Karaoke is a long-running competition comprised of individual qualifying competitions to be held at locations across South-Central Wisconsin; during each individual qualifying competition, no more than 20 *Acts* compete by performing in karaoke style; Acts are judged on various aspects of their performances as outlined below; three (3) acts are determined at each individual qualifying competition, all of whom advance to a final, Grand Prize competition on May 28, 2017; the Grand Prize competition is made up of a field of all winners from all qualifying contests; one (1) act will be judged to be the Grand Prize champion.
** an act is defined as a short singing performance by one person (male or female) or a duet (two people- i.e, male and female, female and female, or male and male).
(3) ENTRY AND JUDGING INDIVIDUAL CONTESTS
Three (3) acts will advance at each preliminary contest:
· Two highest scoring acts
· One audience voted act
a. Acts will be judged by multiple individuals (“Judges”) who are selected and approved by WXRO and Good Karma Broadcasting.
b. Judges will evaluate Acts in each of four (4) categories:
1. Singing Ability / Quality of Voice
2. Appearance (clothing, accessories, etc.)
3. Stage Presence
4. Audience Reaction / Interaction
c. Each of the four categories listed above will be scored on a 1-to-10 scale in which “1” is the worst possible score and “10” is the best possible score.
d. Judges’ scorecards will be used to determine the two highest-scoring acts; the two highest-scoring acts at each individual qualifying contest will both advance to the Grand Prize competition.
e. After the two highest scoring acts are determined by the judges, the audience will vote by ballot for their favorite act to determine the third qualifying act that will advance to the Grand Prize competition.
· Ballots will be handed out to the audience after first and second place winners are selected.
· Everyone that is at the venue can and will receive a fan vote ballot.
· Fan votes must be turned in to GKB teammates by the end of designated song – chosen by DJ the night of the event.
f. Three (3) acts from each location will advance to the final Grand Prize competition on May 28,2017 at Swan Park in Beaver Dam.
g. Participants are permitted to enter into multiple qualifying contests as a single or duet act; once an act is determined to be a winner of a qualifying contest that Act is no longer permitted to enter into additional subsequent qualifying contests.
h. Participants who win as an individual act are no longer permitted to enter into subsequent qualifying competitions as an individual.
i. Participants who win as a duet act are no longer permitted to enter into subsequent qualifying competitions as a duet.
1. In other words, if you win as an individual you may try qualifying as a duet or vice versa.
j. In the event that more than 20 acts sign up to be a Participant(s) at any given qualifying contests, priority to enter into that contests will be given to new Participants.
k. Order of competition will be determined by random drawing performed by WXRO and Good Karma Broadcasting team members.
a. All performances are limited to five (5) minutes.
b. In the event that a Participant(s) endures a technical malfunction as determined by WXRO and Good Karma Broadcasting team members (“Malfunction”), the Participant(s) will have the option to re-start his/her performance at no penalty.
c. Malfunctions include but are not limited to: skipping of digital audio; microphone cutting out / dropping out; echo or feedback through speakers.
d. Malfunctions do not include: Participant’s movements/actions causing audio to skip; Participant(s) turning off hand-held microphone while performing.
e. If it is determined by WXRO and Good Karma Broadcasting team members that a Participant(s) actively caused a Malfunction, that Participant(s) may be disqualified from that individual qualifying contests.
f. During a performance, Participants are not permitted to yield the microphone to any other persons on location for the purpose of aiding the Participant(s); failure to follow this may result in disqualification.
g. Participants are permitted to engage the audience in singing along to background vocals during the performance of a song.
h. Participants are not permitted to distract other Participants or judges at any time; failure to follow this may result in disqualification.
i. Participants are not permitted to use any obscene gestures or language during performances; failure to follow this may result in disqualification.
j. Participants are not permitted to use props of any kind.
k. Participants may be disqualified from competition if it is determined that he/she is involved in a confrontation with any persons attending the individual qualifying competition events, including but not limited to other participants, WXRO, judges and Good Karma Broadcasting team members, patrons of the competition location, staff or management of the competition location.
l.In the event that multiple Acts are tied for the 3rd place Audience Voted Act at an individual qualifying competition, all tied Acts will be given the opportunity to select an additional song to perform; if a tie score persists, Judges and WXRO and Good Karma Broadcasting team members will flip a coin to determine a winner.
m. All decisions made by Judges are to be considered final; arguing with, negotiating with or confronting Judges may result in disqualification; if it is determined that Participants, family members of Participants or anyone directly associated with Participants are conducting themselves inappropriately, the Participant may be disqualified.
n. All disqualifications and associated penalties will be determined by WXRO and Good Karma Broadcasting team members with possible input from Judges.
(5) SONG SELECTION AND REQUIREMENTS
a. Participants are required use audio equipment provided by the DJ, including but not limited to microphones, speakers and vocal/audio processing devices; Participants are not permitted to use any additional equipment beyond what is provided by the DJ.
b. Participants MAY PERFORM A SONG FROM ANY GENRE OF MUSIC
c. Participants will have the option to
1. Select a song contained within the karaoke library provided by the DJ, or
2. Provide his/her own CD or CDG containing an instrumental version of the performance song.
d. In the event that a Participant(s) provides his/her own CD or CDG, the Participant(s) is required to present the correct track listing to the DJ prior to the performance.
e. In the event that a Participant’s personal CD or CDG is not compatible with the DJ’s equipment, the Participant will be required to either choose another song contained within the DJ’s Country Music karaoke library or withdraw from the individual qualifying competition.
f. Participants’ CDs or CGDs that are lost, stolen or misplaced are not the responsibility of WXRO, Good Karma Broadcasting, any of its partners or the host venue.
g. In the event that multiple Participants choose the same song for performance, Participants will be given the option to choose a different song; Participants are not required to change songs.
h. Participants are not permitted to perform songs that contain lyrics or themes that are determined to be vulgar, obscene or sexually explicit. As determined by Good Karma Broadcasting team members at the event.
a. Individual qualifying contests will be held at various venues throughout South-Central Wisconsin; a list of dates, times and venues will be available online at wxroradio.com.
b. The Grand Prize competition will be held during the annual Race Into Summer Festival at Swan Park on Sunday, May 28, 2017.
(7) GRAND PRIZE COMPETITION
a. The final Grand Prize competition to be held during the annual Race Into Summer Festival at Swan Park on Sunday, May 28, 2017, will follow the same rules outlined above for all individual qualifying competitions, except for the allocation of the final Grand Prize.
b. The final Grand Prize of $1,000.00 in cash will be awarded to the one (1) Act who receives the highest/best individual score from the Judges during the Grand Prize competition on Sunday, May 28, 2017.
c. The final Grand Prize of $1,000.00 in cash is not transferrable and may not be substituted in any way.
a. Employees of the Station, its licensee, the licensee’s parent, subsidiary and affiliated entities, Station’s advertising and promotional agencies, its participating sponsors, other radio stations in the Beaver Dam, WI, area and all members of immediate families and/or households are ineligible to participate or win.
